Katy Perry‘s space mission has become a huge meme online over the past week. Since the pop star had hyped up the trip so much on social media, fans were disappointed to learn that she had only been in space for a few short minutes before returning to Earth. It sparked a conversation about whether the Blue Origin flight was even necessary or just a waste of money. In a new TikTok, Camila Cabello joined the conversation by seemingly throwing shade at Perry for having the “budget” to splurge on such an outrageous trip.
Are Camila Cabello and Katy Perry Feuding?
The Camila Cabello and Katy Perry drama began on Tuesday, April 22, when the “Havana” singer shared a TikTok that had fans raising their eyebrows. During the viral clip, Cabello could be seen holding up a poster featuring her Yours, C, tour dates. She moved her head and the paper around to make it seem like she was floating in space. The moment was meant to imitate the meme of Perry promoting her Lifetimes tour setlist while floating inside the Blue Origin space rocket. “Didn’t have the budget to fly to space to promote my tour dates so I made this TikTok instead,” Cabello wrote alongside her video.
Since she tagged the American Idol star in her caption, some fans thought Cabello was just playing around with Perry. However, others were convinced she was really dissing the pop star for taking part in the controversial space mission. “The shade lmao,” one person wrote. “I love some good shade,” another fan commented. “Damn Katy is everyone’s punching bag,” read another comment.
Even Wendy’s Came After the Singer
It’s true that the “Dark Horse” singer has been criticized a lot lately. Just days before her drama with Camila Cabello, Perry was involved in a feud with Wendy’s. After hearing that she had successfully returned to Earth, the fast food chain wrote on X, “Can we send her back.” Their post garnered over two million views and received a mixed response from users on the social media platform. Some thought it was funny, but others criticized the brand for being “rude” to Perry. They wondered why Wendy’s appeared to be so against her. Regardless, they felt the company should have remained professional and kept their dislike of Perry to themselves.
Following the backlash, Wendy’s clarified that they never meant to shade Perry. They said their post was just friendly banter meant to “spice” up their socials. The brand added that they have a lot of respect for Perry and even praised her talent, calling it “out-of-this-world.”
Katy Perry’s space mission took place on Monday, April 14. The rest of the Blue Origin flight crew included Gayle King, Lauren Sanchez, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyen, and Kerianne Flynn.
