There’s little doubt that Starfield has caught the eyes of PlayStation fans who are hoping to experience Bethesda’s sci-fi epic on PS5. The game is one of the biggest titles of the generation and has lofty expectations to live up to after years of anticipation. Everything that’s been released so far points to Starfield being yet another unforgettable adventure from Bethesda, but will players be able to explore the cosmos on PS5 or is it an Xbox exclusive title?
Is Starfield Coming to PS5?
Unfortunately, Starfield will not be available on PS5. This is sure to come as a bitter pill to swallow for PlayStation fans who were champing at the bit to dive head-first into the game. Bethesda is now fully owned by Microsoft, meaning that all future games produced by the studio are now considered first-party titles and exclusive to Xbox consoles and PC.
Previously it was thought that future titles in the Fallout and Elder Scrolls series would be treated on a case-by-case basis in terms of exclusivity. Bethesda and Microsoft seem to have formed a fairly resilient partnership which makes it increasingly unlikely that the studios’ games will be released on PlayStation.
It looked like all was lost for PS5 owners who were looking to dive head first into Starfield, but it looks like a new hope has presented itself, albeit in a slightly unconventional fashion.
Starfield on PlayStation Portal
As it turns out, Starfield could be playable on Sony’s upcoming hand held device, the PlayStation Portal. The device has been established as a companion to the PlayStation 5 and allows users to access their entire library of games. However, it is limited in what it can do. For instance, it must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your PS5, meaning you can’t exactly take it on the go with you.
However, as pointed out by Cole Martin at Window’s Central, there may be a way to experience Starfield on the PlayStation handheld. According to Martin, the device runs on a modified version of Android and, as Xbox offers an Android app for Game Pass, users can technically mod the Portal’s system to download the app.
Theoretically, this will allow Users to play Starfield on PlayStation Portal. To be honest, though, it all sounds like a lot of strenuous effort we won’t know if it is truly possible until the device is released.
