Us diehard Resident Evil fans we seem to always feel as though we’re waiting far too long for the next main installment, and that looks set to continue. But while that might sound like a sore bit of news, at least we know that the developer is working incredibly hard to ensure that the ambitious RE9 will be a game worthy of a 90+ critical score. That’s according to an X post from Dusk Golem, a well-known developer behind Yai Gameworks.
The post came as a reply to an X user discussing their theory as to why Capcom hasn’t announced the next RE installment. They theorized that Capcom is afraid of living up to Resident Evil 4 Remake and are thus taking their time. To that, Dusk Golem replies:
Here’s a really small but truthful tidbit; Not only is Resident Evil 9 just an ambitious game, there hasn’t been a non-remake Resident Evil game that’s gotten the level of critical success to get a 90+ critical score. Hear Capcom is gunning really hard to make this great.”

Notably, Dusk Golem is responsible for several industry leaks and rumors that have turned out to be true, like those of Resident Evil Village before its official release. While it isn’t really a rumor that Capcom would want to make a great game, it’s interesting that its seemingly hyper-aware of how well its previous games have done because most of them have been remakes of already well-received games.
I greatly enjoyed Village, but I understand that Ethan Winter’s story has ended. I’m incredibly excited for whatever RE9 has in store, but I’m also wary since it will be an ambitious new game with a framework worthy of a critical score. However, if it’s anything like the jump from Resident Evil 6 to 7, I’m more than happy to wait for it.
