Ever since Avengers: Infinity War, fans have been dying to see Captain Marvel join the MCU. A few weeks ago, Brie Larson (who plays Carol Danvers AKA Captain Marvel) teamed up with Entertainment Weekly to deliver some screenshots for the upcoming film.
Today, Larson revealed the first official trailer for Captain Marvel on Good Morning America. You can see the full trailer below:
As you saw above, Captain Marvel will take place in the 1990s. Carol Danvers crashlands and returns to Earth with little memory of her former life on the planet. She eventually meets up with a younger Nick Fury (played by a de-aged Samuel L. Jackson) and she seemingly sets the S.H.I.E.L.D agent on his path to forming The Avengers.
The first thing I noticed from the trailer (apart from that awesome Blockbuster Video throwback) was Samuel L. Jackson. CGI in MCU movies have just gotten better with every film and Jackson’s Fury looks amazing here. Danvers’ loss of memory is a unique choice for sure and it sets up an interesting dynamic for the movie going forward. Captain Marvel is most likely hunting down the shapeshifting Skrulls embedded in society, apparent from our heroine punching an old lady in the face towards the end of the trailer. Well, at least I hope that the old lady was a Skrull.
Captain Marvel will star Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Jude Law, Clark Gregg, Djimon Hounsou, Annette Bening, Gemma Chan, Lee Pace, and many others. The film is set to release March 8th, 2019.
