Star Wars is one of the most well-known franchises in the world, and what would it be without the work of Carrie Fisher? Fisher is most well-known for her role as Princess Leia in the franchise’s first three installments, known as the original trilogy. Officially titled episodes four through six, the original trilogy is filled with iconic quotes, battles, and costumes. One costume in particular just sold for $175.000. That would be Princess Leia’s gold bikini as seen in Episode six, Return of the Jedi.
Carrie Fisher’s character was a crucial part of the Star Wars story. Princess Leia Organa of Alderaan was a Rebel leader, a political power, and a dangerous warrior. The lucky fan who was able to swoop in and purchase her official episode six costume got an iconic piece of Star Wars memorabilia.
Carrie Fisher Hated Her Iconic Star Wars Outfit
However, Fisher was not a huge fan of her iconic look. According to NPR, Fisher believed that George Lucas was “kidding” when she showed her the golden bikini. The late actress also stated that she “felt nearly naked,” which was “not a style for me.” Carrie also claims that what redeemed it all was she was able to kill Jabba the Hutt, who was a ruthless gangster, with the chain he used to hold her in place.
Carrie Fisher also returns in Disney’s Star Wars trilogy. Episodes seven, eight, and nine are known as the sequel trilogy and are not well-received by most of the fanbase. However, Princess Leia is at the forefront yet again as she leads the Resistance against the evil First Order.
Even though Carrie Fisher was never a fan of her golden bikini, nobody can argue that the costume is not iconic. It would make a fine addition to anyone’s collection. Fisher’s work for the Star Wars franchise will never be forgotten, and Princess Leia will live on forever.
