The death of Matthew Perry hit many of his friends, family members, and fans hard. However, it reportedly rocked actor Charlie Sheen to his core. When news of Perry’s death was announced in October 2023, it was shocking. The actor was found irresponsible at his Los Angeles home and was later revealed to have died from using ketamine as well as underlying health issues. For Sheen, it stirred something inside of him.
As fans may know, Sheen and Perry both struggled with addiction over the years. The Two and a Half Men actor admitted to reading Perry’s book, which detailed his sobriety issues. Following Perry’s death, Sheen admitted that the news could have easily been about him at various points during his life.

“I felt something… when he died about, wow, you could easily be reading about me instead. That was really sad,” Sheen told Deadline. “I can relate to so much of it because I was reliving or I was experiencing it with him.”
According to In Touch Weekly, Charlie Sheen spent several years dealing with addiction. In 1990 he entered rehab for the first time. Eight years later, he suffered an overdose that nearly took his life. “Matthew’s death shocked him to the core,” an insider told the magazine. “It’s served as yet another example of how difficult it can be for anyone who’s battled addiction to stay sober.”
Sheen is reportedly sober now and has been for about six years. The impressive accomplishment comes after decades of turmoil in his life. It seems that the two actors could have been close friends as they had very relatable and similar stories. However, tragically, they’ll never get the chance to have that conversation.
