Matthew Perry’s death rocked Hollywood. Fans, friends and family members of the actor were shocked to learn of his death in October 2023. Of course, Perry’s former Friends co-stars were some of the most devastated by the news of his passing. Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, and Matt LeBlanc were quick to share a joint statement about Perry’s death. In the days following his funeral, the cast also shared individual tributes to the man who portrayed Chandler Bing on the hit sitcom. Sadly, sources are now revealing that Perry held a grudge against his co-stars.
According to Us Weekly, Perry’s sobriety journey was a long and hard one. Although the actor claimed to be sober for nearly two years before his untimely death, an insider says his addiction issues often caused issues in his relationships with his famous castmates.
Matthew Perry Was Jealous of His Friends Co-Stars
“He lied to all of them about so many things over the years,” an insider dished. “He had so much respect for them, but he [didn’t always] have positive things to say about them. He felt inferior [to them], so when he spoke negatively, it came from that insecurity.”
However, Matthew Perry loved his co-stars. Sadly, it wasn’t enough to allow him to escape his feelings of jealousy. “Matthew viewed himself and the cast as winning the same lottery with the show’s success. They reaped the benefits of fame and fortune, but they didn’t have to deal with the pain of addiction. [There were times] he resented them for that,” the source added.
Over the years, Perry tried his best to move past his addiction. Part of that process was writing his memoir, where he detailed the dark times in his life. He also appeared with his former co-stars for a highly-anticipated Friends reunion special on HBO Max.
Despite it all, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, and Matt LeBlanc were reportedly heartbroken over Matthew Perry’s tragic death and are now part of the legacy he’s left behind.
