Released all the way back in 2013, Moirai is an interactive/walking/contemplative cave romp by creator Chris Johnson. Even though this game has been out, for free, going on 3 years, Moirai is enjoying some much-needed love thanks in part to the recent listing on Steam.
Still, what exactly is Moirai? We know the literal definition of the word to mean “fates” (from the ancient Greek). Does Lady Luck have a part to play in this oddly unsettling walking game? Does the player have free will or is it all up to chance? Ugh, these questions should be left in the classroom. Check out this trailer instead.

I know, eerie. The official description of the game doesn’t help us much either:
The townsfolk tell you that a woman named Julia has gone missing. You venture out into the cave just beyond the village looking for her. You’re given a knife to protect yourself. What you find there may surprise you
This Julia character doesn’t sound like someone that I would want to find in a dingy cave, but do you ever have a choice? Ah, a theme reveals itself!
Without giving too much away, Moirai is a 10-minute game that demands your attention, if only for a moment. The simple premise of this game will linger with players for a day or two, asking you to visit the game once more. Go on, check it out! It’s free and it might even make you think thoughts about things.
