If you’re going around looking for trouble, it shouldn’t be surprising if it finds you first. And while one woman in Chicago, Illinois, wasn’t searching for trouble, per se, she was following ICE agents, likely hoping to catch them in the act of arresting someone and perhaps intervene. Unfortunately for her, she didn’t realize she would become the victim. The woman was in her car behind one of the agents’ vehicles when it suddenly backed up and hit her front bumper. Without warning, several of the geared men stepped out and pulled her out of the car to arrest her.

The Chicago woman tried her best to repel the ICE agents by claiming that what she was doing wasn’t illegal, but they ended up detaining her in the end. Fortunately, the authorities let her go, as she was clearly innocent, not to mention one of their undocumented targets. In the second half of the driver’s TikTok post of the whole incident, she stated that it’s important to help out the community and keep ICE accountable for what they’re doing. She clarifies that it’s not about getting into dangerous situations, but about protecting and helping the targets of ICE and Border Patrol in any way we can.

ICE Agents Criticized for Arresting the Woman Without Cause

Online commenters were still quite upset that she was detained in the first place, and rightfully so. “This is infuriating!!!! They had no valid reason!!!!!” exclaimed one person. “This is horrible. these are our neighborhoods, it’s terrorism,” remarked a Reddit user. “They are calling everything and anything ‘Impeding.’ And 99.9% of the time it’s totally fabricated,” adds another. And while the Chicago ICE agents might have had a good reason to perhaps scold the woman for impeding with her following so closely behind their car, it still didn’t make it right to have her detained without cause.

Besides criticizing ICE and the agents in the post, many users also praised the woman for her bravery in potentially preventing them from snatching up another victim. “Thank you for wasting their time and being so brave!” complimented a commenter. “YOU’RE SO BRAVE. Just know that you’re making a big difference,” said another. Truly, what she did might not have been much, but it’s honest work in the fight against ICE oppression.
