We’ve all seen the news before, Chris Evans was alluding to his end as Captain America in the Marvel films. He said he’d be hanging up Captain America’s shield following the next Avengers movie. However, one of his directors is saying the very opposite.
According to an interview with USA Today, Avengers 4 Co-Director, Joe Russo referenced a tweet that Chris Evans sent out back in September. Here is the tweet below:

As you can see, the way it’s worded makes it seem like Chris Evans is in fact done with being Captain America. He even said it was emotional and an honor to play him for eight years. While reading this tweet you can rightfully so think that he’s finished. Russo says “I think it was emotional for him than it was us because he’s not done yet. And I won’t explain what that means but the audience will soon understand what I’m talking about.”
Evans originally said that after filming for Avengers 4 was done it was an “emotional day to say the least”. He then proceeded to thank everyone involved with his career thus far and thanked them for the memories. Evans also previously mentioned that he would probably not be renewing his contract with Marvel Studios after Avengers 4.
Did Evans not know something before he said all this? Well, we can speculate that this means that there will still be a Captain America in some way or another. Also during the interview with USA Today, Russo went on to say that Avengers 4 is about halfway through the editorial process. The film will be at least three hours long in its current unfinished state.
As we get closer and closer to Avengers 4, maybe we’ll see a trailer in the near future. The Russo brothers continue to be hard at work to please all Marvel fans.
