The city-building hit, Cities:Skylines, is getting its first expansion this September with Cities: Skylines – After Dark. Colossal Order and Paradox Interactive are taking players into the nighttime world of Skylines, a world brought to life with technicolor light displays, popping clubs, and seedy bars.  According to Paradox,

In After Dark, players of Cities: Skylines will get a chance to see what their city residents get up to once the sun goes down. Towns will look – and behave – differently at night…New city services will make sure that nighttime revelers get home safe in new in-game taxis, while those who get too irresponsible may find themselves in new in-game prisons.

Paradox and Colossal Order really don’t want their digital denizens to drive under the influence — even throwing the little Skyliners straight into prison.

On top of punitive penal programs, After Dark will also allow players the full flexibility of a day/night cycle, beach and leisure specialization, and new transportation services including bike lanes. Is that still considered “driving” under the influence? With the new modes of transportation and leisure activities, your citizens will have greater options in their daily tasks, giving the player a twilight pastiche of neon and florescent lights to gaze at by night.

Keeping in line with Paradox’s prior record of providing free patch highlights with each expansion, the day/night cycle will be free with a patch on release day. If you want to tinker with the nightlife in your current C:S project, you’ll need to wait until September 24th to turn your suburban utopia into a club-ridden and possibly vomit covered nightscape.

Will you bring “After Dark” to your idyllic Cities:Skylines community? Let us know in the comments below.
