Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 didn’t just have a big night at The Game Awards 2025 — it’s been quietly racking up wins everywhere else, too. Since awards season kicked off, the French RPG has continued to appear at the top of year-end lists across gaming media worldwide. That steady momentum has now pushed Expedition 33 past 332 industry awards and GOTY wins, surpassing The Last of Us Part 2 in the all-time count, according to Reddit.
From Rolling Stone and GameSpot to Australian Minimap Gaming and Spanish Xataka NordVPN Awards, it has collected honors across a wide range of media. Our Julio La Pine called it a ‘masterful RPG’ that overhauls classic elements ‘in the flashiest and most interactive ways.’ Expedition 33‘s reach also extends beyond Western events and outlets. Sandfall Interactive’s game won GOTY and Best RPG at the Thailand Game Awards and was selected as a top game by a majority of 190 Japanese developers in a Famitsu industry survey.
Naughty Dog’s action-drama itself previously held the second-place spot with an estimated 326 awards. A benchmark that has stood uncontested for years since its 2020 debut — until now. Meanwhile, the fourth and fifth spots are reserved for Baldur’s Gate 3 and The Witcher 3, respectively.

Critical praise is only part of the story, however. Despite ongoing debate regarding its ‘indie’ status, Expedition 33 has also become a full-blown fan favorite. Proven by its sitting at the top of Metacritic’s Best Games by User Score with an average rating of 9.6. It’s followed by MGS 3: Subsistence and Heroes of Might and Magic 3. A funny coincidence, considering the top three games all have a ‘3’ in the title.
But, one question remains: what game is still sitting at the top of the gaming throne? That honor belongs to FromSoftware’s Elden Ring, which is widely regarded as one of the best action RPGs of this generation. It became the most awarded game of all time with more than 430 awards to its name.
Now, whether Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 can close that GOTY and awards gap is still an open question. After all, it has secured its place as one of the most decorated games the industry has ever seen. And with Best of 2025 lists still trickling in, the race for the top spot may not be over just yet.
