A Colorado woman couldn’t bear to spend one more day at her toxic job, so she decided to quit. But instead of confronting her boss one-on-one, she decided to go out in a public way. She quit in front of a room full of astounded people. Now, she’s sharing why she decided to leave Vuori.
Monica (@monicaen_11) shared in the caption to one of her latest videos, “Quit your toxic job dramatically. It is so much fun!” Monica planned out how she was going to leave her toxic job once and for all. In the video, she’s standing in a Vuori store in a Colorado mall, where she works. The store sells activewear to everyone. Monica tries to get her boss’s attention. When she calls on Monica, Monica states for all to hear: “Um… Actually, this is gonna be my last staff meeting. I’m quitting. You’re a [expletive].”
At this point, a couple of people in the room are turned around and staring at her. They let out gasps at what Monica has to say. Her boss says, “Okay! Bye, Monica!” Monica starts walking out of the room as if she’s completely unfazed. She then walks out of the mall into the bright sunshine and announces, “I just quit my job!” with a smile on her face.
Of course, Monica followed up with an update to explain why she did what she did. Monica said when she started her part-time retail position, she “genuinely loved working there.” But that soon all changed. Why? One of the floor leads at her job was promoted to assistant manager, and all the drama started. Monica and all the other workers tried to do their best and ignore him. But then one day, he took a worker out back behind the building and berated them on their work until they were left in tears. Monica said her name was brought up during this conversation and the whole thing made her “uncomfortable.”
According to Monica, a lot more than just this one incident happened. But this is the only update she’s posted as of recently on the matter. It’s clear that she had a less-than-pleasing experience at her job and it was time to walk away.
Monica’s initial video sparked reactions from hundreds of commenters who had a lot to say about her quitting experience. One commenter stated, “Everyone gasping had me dying.” Another pointed out, “Everyone needs to quit like this at least once in their life, it’s liberating!” Others, however, thought that the way Monica quit was inappropriate. One person stated, “Not the flex you think this is.”
Commenters continue to share their opinions on Monica’s experience. Many people continue to agree that she did what was best for her. Others state that the way she handled things was vastly “unprofessional.” They continue to react and share personal stories and even tidbits about the company where Monica worked.
