A very emotional Colorado woman took to TikTok to recount her experience with scammers while fighting back tears. She stated that she was already beating herself up for falling into the hands of these criminals, but she wanted to share in case it could help prevent someone else from falling victim. “I experienced a moment of dumbness, and they got me for my life savings,” she said, struggling to hold the tears. Going into the story, she shared that she had received a call from her bank and had even googled the number to confirm it was indeed the bank’s number.
The man on the call told her there had been fraudulent activity on her account, including an unauthorized transaction. He asked if she was aware of any Texas charge, and when she denied it, he said that he had to transfer her to their fraud department. Another number called her, and unfortunately, she did not bother to check it, assuming it was real. The lady on the line told her that she was a victim of identity theft. The woman confessed that, at that point, she was panicking and had been advised to go to a branch near her to sort it out.
The victim stated that at different times she thought they were scammers, but she dismissed it, not trusting herself. While she was driving to the bank, the woman on the call knew the bank she was heading to and told her that it was under investigation. The scammer somehow managed to convince the woman to withdraw a large sum from her account and hand it to a courier parked outside her house, claiming it was fraudulent money. In a follow-up video, she thanked everyone who had sent a kind word in the comments on the earlier video. She also cleared the air on some questions asked. The woman noted that she had reported the issue to the police and taken the necessary steps. She also appreciated those who encouraged her to open up a GoFundMe account and those who donated.
Compassion Flows For Scammed Woman
Many users rallied behind the woman who had been scammed, offering encouragement and empathy, while some came in with a wave of skepticism and judgment against the victim.
A TikToker among the supportive voices wrote, “You made a costly mistake, YOU ARE NOT DUMB. You will recover, sweetheart.” A group of users fixated on the fact that the scammers had her address, urging her to involve the appropriate authorities. An encouraging user said, “They count on embarrassment to keep their activity secret. Thank you for sharing your story and protecting others.” A reflective user pointed out that the woman repeatedly doubted the incident’s authenticity, advising that people should always trust their intuition. The unsympathetic group of users also shared their feelings. “Even a newborn wouldn’t fall for that trick 😭,” one stated bluntly. Another confessed that they lost sympathy for her as her story progressed, while an aggressive critic argued that the story was bizarre and even suggested that the GoFundMe account was probably the actual scam.
The heartbreaking story highlights the need to be extremely careful when dealing with money and to confirm facts before acting.
