Gabriel Hardman, the co-author and artist for Green Lantern: Earth One, is throwing his hat in the ring to direct an episode of DC’s Lanterns. This interest comes after James Gunn and Peter Safran revealed an HBO Max police-style drama live-action Lanterns series. In announcing the project, Gunn and Safran used Hardman’s art from Green Lantern: Earth One. This spurred the artist and writer to shoot his shot over Twitter.
Saw that my GREEN LANTERN: EARTH ONE art was used by @JamesGunn to pitch the LANTERNS series during the #DCStudios presentation. Since I already got the series going in the right visual direction how about hiring me to direct an episode? pic.twitter.com/eD01zaxgcx

Gabriel Hardman Up to Bat!
Per CBR, Hardman took to Twitter to post his interest in directing at least one episode of the upcoming HBO Max series. In the post, the writer acknowledged that he “saw [his] Green Lantern: Earth One art was used by James Gunn to the pitch Lanterns”. He went on to share that he “already got the series going in the right visual direction” so hiring him to direct is a no-brainer.
Not only is Hardman familiar with the comics behind DC’s Lanterns, but he is also an old hat when it comes to films. Back in 2004 he directed the short Wrong Way Up. From there he went on to work on storyboards for numerous films. They include Inception, Interstellar, Spider-Man 3, and the recently released The Call of the Wild. He also aided in the storyboards for the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
DC’s Lanterns
The art that was used by Gunn and Co. for the announcement is from the first and second volumes of Green Lantern: Earth One. Hardman co-created the series alongside Corinna Bechko. It served as part of DC’s 2009 Earth One graphic novels series.
DC’s Lanterns will focus on both Jordan and Stewart as the titular superhero. According to Safran, the show will be akin to a “True Detective-type mystery”. It is replacing the previously announced Green Lantern series from DC favorite Greg Berlanti.
James Gunn went on to share that DC’s Lanterns will be terrestrial based. However, it will eventually connect with the overall story running through DC’s film and television projects. The same way Peacemaker was able to blend throughout both film and television.
