The acclaimed film composer will be taking the director’s chair for a project entitled Werewolf By Night. Michael Giacchino, a busy man who assembles scores for a few big properties, has always been known for his music. With filming to commence soon, we’re bound to see a teaser within the next few months for this new Marvel Halloween Special.
Michael Giacchino Puts Down the Music Sheets for a Marvel Directorial Opportunity
Not much is known about the new Marvel Studios project. Only that it’s being centered around Halloween, much like James Gunn‘s upcoming The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special presumably being set during the holiday season. However, actors Gael Garcia Bernal and Laura Donnelly will be starring in the one-hour special. Some sources believe that it will be Bernal playing the titular character. Still, these are the only known facts in regards to the special.
Michael Giacchino has been composing music for films since the late 90s, with Legal Deceit being his first project. Since then, he’s written music for J.J. Abrams with big titles such as Lost, Star Trek, and Super 8. Additionally, he’s composed tunes for several Pixar projects, including The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Inside Out, Up, and more. He’s getting a lot of recent attention with his artistic contributions to both Marvel and DC properties. In the span of four months, Spider-Man: No Way Home and The Batman were released in theaters; both written by Giacchino.
Werewolf By Night is currently the working title for the project. Filming is expected to begin in Atlanta later this month. Giacchino’s Marvel Halloween Special will premiere on Disney+, as is the case for many upcoming Marvel shows. But what are your thoughts on Michael Giacchino working directly behind the camera with Marvel? Have you heard of other composers who have dipped their toes into the director’s point of view?
