Geoff Keighley announced today the nominees for the different categories of The Game Awards. Among all the nominees, there are games with excellent stories, fun mechanics, and some discontent among the comments. One of the categories that caused a lot of commotion was Best Mobile Game, which in recent years has featured the trendiest gacha games. However, this year, many believe that some of the most popular gacha games were missing, as The Game Awards only included ZZZ and Wuthering Waves. Not that the other choices are bad, but many expected a closer fight between HoYoverse’s titles and the only one of Kuro Games.
It was a surprise for fans of gacha games not to see Genshin Impact among the nominees. This is mainly due to the radical change it got with the arrival of version 5.0 and Natlan, which definitely impacted the acceptance of the players for the developers team. Also, the lack of Honkai: Star Rail on the list was unexpected because it has even more appreciation and popularity than Genshin Impact. Honkai made its place in the players’ hearts because of its good story and for the incredible gifts, such as a free Dr. Ratio after the nomination of HSR for the same award but from last year.
The general consensus is that many of us are happy that at least one HoYoverse title made it to this prestigious list, Zenless Zone Zero. Kuro Games’ participation with WuWa in this great contest was surprising but deserved. It is clear that the reason ZZZ and Wuthering Waves are in The Game Awards is due to their incredible visuals, flashy special effects, and dynamic combat. However, this category has other equally strong contenders, such as AFK Journey, Balatro, and Pokemon TCG Pocket. So, the Best Mobile Game battle will be intense, and we will have to wait until December 12, 2024, to find the winner.
