The video of the attorney, which runs over six minutes, shows him engaged in a heated argument with the judge over a matter related to the case. The situation escalated when he appeared to throw his phone, prompting the judge’s anger, though the attorney claimed the phone had simply fallen off the bench.
A controversial moment in the video occurred when the attorney appeared to suggest that the judge’s treatment of him was related to his transgender identity. The judge responded, “I don’t know what you are,” leading to further argument between them. The situation intensified when another attorney attempted to speak, prompting the transgender attorney to yell, “get out of my face.” At that point, the judge decided to hold him in contempt.
During the attempted arrest, the transgender attorney continued to argue with the judge, which escalated the situation. He was accused of resisting arrest, and officers responded by throwing him to the ground, with one placing him in a headlock. The attorney repeatedly shouted, “I can’t breathe,” and screamed for someone in the courtroom to call 911. After the officers handcuffed him, he demanded that a female officer handle him.
The attorney later posted a video announcing that he was stepping away from his law firm. He explained that he believed he had grounds for a discrimination lawsuit and added that leaving the firm was the best decision for his and his family’s physical safety.
The incident sparked a wave of online attacks targeting the transgender attorney. Many of these attacks came from right-wing accounts and conservatives who celebrated the events, often including transphobic comments and instances of misgendering. Conservatives React to Oklahoma Trans Attorney Held in Contempt
The video sparked reactions online. The majority of the attacks came from conservatives who expressed delight over what happened to the Oklahoma transgender attorney. Many comments were transphobic, including one that read, “Wow. Priceless. She pretends to be a he, gets thrown down by men for going crazy then wants a female officer. Ya. Right. Make asylums great again.” Another person wrote, “Giving fat, overmedicated, anxiety and depression ridden women tons of testosterone seems to be working out really well.”
More people continued to attack the attorney online. One person wrote, “Disbar. That is an unstable person in desperate need of psychiatric help. A woman’s brain on male hormones on full display. Can it get any clearer this is an unnatural combination causing a psychotic episode?” A few users defended him, including one who said, “What the judge, the prosecutor or plaintiff’s lawyer and the cops did was horrible and wrong! I hope all the cops, the judge and that prosecutor are arrested, sued into bankruptcy and sentenced to the maximum prison sentence!”
Many viewers considered the attorney’s behavior inappropriate. However, that does not justify the transphobic attacks and comments directed at him.
