Good parents would always want to look after their kids and make sure that they are okay. For instance, you might drive your kid everywhere so that they are always safe. Or you might go swimming with them so they aren’t swimming on their own. A California mom didn’t exactly do this. She caused a lot of controversy after a couple at a swimming pool filmed her doing something quite weird. The mom had her daughter in front of her and she was tied to a long leash. Yes, a leash like the ones you would see on dogs. It was even around her body and everything. I wish that this were a joke, but the mom definitely looked serious. When her daughter jumped into the pool, the woman kept the leash handle in her hand while she watched the girl swim.
I don’t know why any parent would think of using a leash on their kids. Even if she wanted to look after her, she could have simply swum with her. What made the leash thing even more annoying is that at one point, the California woman used it to pull her daughter back. She even kept pulling the leash as if she were pulling something using a rope and not a human. Her daughter didn’t even get to swim for more than 10 seconds before she pulled her back. How is that fun? Not to mention that this can be embarrassing for a lot of kids. They can end up getting bullied if their classmates see them doing bizarre things like this. I’m not a parent so I don’t know if all parents do this. It’s definitely not normal, though.
People Reacting to the Controversial California Mom
Some people actually agreed with the California mom using a leash on her daughter. One person even wrote, “People without kids won’t understand this.” Another mom tried to defend the California mom as she said, “I used to judge people that put kids on a leash, but then I had a kid that runs..” Others mentioned that the woman’s daughter might be autistic and this is why she was using a leash. “Did you ever think to consider that maybe her child is autistic, but still wants them to enjoy doing things?” one woman asked. Another woman said, “People who judge have never cared to know or learn anything about autism.” This claim, however, made an autistic person share their own opinion. “I’m not judging and I have autism with autistic nieces. In the pool this becomes a strangling hazard,” they wrote.
On the other hand, some people judged the California woman for using a leash on her kid. A couple of people feared the kid drowning, as someone wrote, “A life jacket wasn’t a solution.. ?? Because if they started drowning the leash not saving nothing.” Another woman was definitely judging because she said, “Some parents will do everything but go in the pool with their kids geez.” Since the people who defended the mom started coming after the person who posted the video, one person came to their defense. “this comment section is not it. This is so dangerous to every kid in that pool. I’m absolutely judging. This is completely different than a leash backpack at a busy amusement park,” they wrote. Honestly, I just hope that the kid is okay. That is what really matters, right?
