With unusual items popping up for sale at Costco all the time, it can really pay to take a look at what the retailer has to offer — from entire wheels of cheese to engagement rings and even actual caskets. There are always weird items lining the aisles if you keep your eyes open. For one man, an item that he discovered at a California Costco would actually turn out to be a small investment.
A TikTok user by the name of Humphrey Yang hit his local Costco in 2024. It was there he discovered they were selling one-ounce PAMP Suisse gold bars for an astounding $2,359. Humphrey figured hey, why not, and made the purchase of the nugget knowing that gold is never a bad purchase.
Surprisingly, a year later, his gold bar would bring in a bit more money than it was initially worth. In a TikTok video, Humphrey approached a dealer at Witter Coin to see how much his gold bar is worth. At this point, nearly a year had passed.
The employee tells Humphrey, “Right now, we’re paying $2,955.42 (per ounce),” which is a profit of $595.43. Humphrey was more than happy with the deal and said that everything went “surprisingly easy.”
Though Humphrey was excited to turn any sort of profit on the gold, many people on TikTok believe that waiting would have been his best option if he wanted more out of it. One person giving financial advice stated that he pulled the trigger a little too soon, stating, “Gold price is probably gonna end up at 8k or something. Don’t sell yet.” However, the deal was already made, and Humphrey was pleased.
Now, the price of gold has actually increased in the past few months. People are indeed making profits. In fact, since March, the price of gold went up to $3,300 per ounce. It’s projected to reach as much as $3,700 by the end of the year!
It is believed that the price is going to skyrocket due to the fact that investors believe tariffs enlisted by President Trump are going to impact the rest of the economy negatively. So, having a little bit of gold on you certainly isn’t going to hurt. It may be the right time to sell this year if you were previously considering it!
