Courtney B. Vance has joined the Lilo & Stitch remake. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Vance has been cast as Cobra Bubbles, a former CIA agent turned social worker. The original film’s plot is centered on an eccentric young girl named Lilo in the care of her older sister, who befriends an alien designed for destruction, Stitch. Cobra Bubbles is a figure of fear to Lilo’s sister Nani, who is trying to convince him she is fit to care for Lilo. Vance will work alongside Maia Kealoha (Lilo), Sydney Agudong (Nani), Kahiau Machado (David, Nani’s love interest), Zach Galifianakis, and Billy Magnussen in Dean Fleischer Camp’s movie.
Lilo & Stitch Remake Faces Major Hurdles
Courtney B. Vance is joining Lilo & Stitch as Cobra Bubbles at an interesting time. Disney is facing backlash for hiring the Kauai-born newcomer Agudong as Nani. Some feel the actress is too light-skinned and that a Native Hawaiian should play the character. The film also faced another hurdle this past Sunday night when a fire on the movie set destroyed a $200,000 trailer and costumes to be used for the movie. Police have ruled it an arson, though they mentioned no suspect or motive.
The film industry can be a point of contention in Hawaii. Along with crimes like this fire, some locals feel it turns Hawaii into a mere tourist destination. This is why the rebuilding of Coco Palms Resort (a location filmed in 1961’s Blue Hawaii) has been controversial for many years.

Despite the controversies and a major setback with the fire, the Lilo & Stitch remake team is pressing on, and they’ve brought in Courtney B. Vance as Cobra Bubbles. All hurdles aside, Disney is pressing on with this project.
