It’s staggeringly common to see police officers abusing their power over people, even if they’re doing nothing. You’d think taking the job that’s meant to help people wouldn’t cause so many problems, but here we are. Case in point, a Georgia cop tried to be a real tough guy when he started beating up a handcuffed man. And it’s moments like this that make you wonder how this officer managed to pass at all.
Posted on r/PublicFreakout and shared to @AlwaysFilmthePolice on Instagram, the video was captioned “Cops in Savannah, GA slams handcuffed, non-resisting man headfirst onto the concrete.” It shows a police officer just suddenly yank a handcuffed man to the ground. The man just lays there on the ground as people shout in the background. The man asks, “That’s how you feel? I’m literally in handcuffs.”
When the police officer tells him to get up, he says, “I can’t.” A second officer helps him to his feet, and then both police officers stand with him after he was just forcefully thrown to the ground. Somebody, likely the man recording the abuse, says, “He had a loooooong day at work, that’s all.” There is literally no excuse for a police officer to ever exert his power on a citizen like this. He was just standing there, being a non-threat and complying.
In the comments, a commenter shared a close-up photo of the officer and his angry mug after he just beat the man onto the ground. The commenter said in the caption, “That’s the look.” Another person replied to the comment, “Definitely beats his wife.” Another commenter suggested, “Probably has a record or at minimum fired from a previous department.”
I wouldn’t be surprised if this officer has a history, but as one person put it: “They do this because there’s no repercussions now.” To be fair, there were little repercussions before, but Trump’s presidency has only emboldened them. Just look at all the ICE agents harassing people and fearmongering about immigrants.
“And not a single one of the other cops there stepped in. They wonder why the public doesn’t care when one of them gets killed,” one commenter stated. It makes you wonder if some officers are too afraid to say anything or just don’t care how their partners act.
