When Sony entered the video game market it was during the height of Nintendo and Sega’s rivalry. Because of this, Sony felt it needed a mascot of its own. They turned to Universal Interactive who made them what would be considered Sony’s unofficial mascot. For reasons that remain unclear, they chose a Bandicoot and Crash Bandicoot was born.

Sony’s answer to an Italian Plumber and a blue hedgehog was well received, but the 21st century hasn’t been kind to mascot characters and Crash Bandicoot hasn’t been heard from since 2008.

“Do you think you can get me into the next Smash Bros? I really need the work…”

However, a Bandicoot reboot may be on the horizon courtesy of a hint by the voice actor of Crash’s nemesis Dr. Neo Cortex (Lex Lang);

“This week I have been asked to resurrect three different characters I voiced from 3 different games gone by. A doctor, a devil and a droid/AI. Unfortunately, that’s all I’m allowed to disclose at this time. Stay tuned for more details!! Very excited about those!!”

Given that Lang has only voiced one video game doctor, it doesn’t take a huge leap of logic to guess who that is. The sudden decision to return to Crash Bandicoot may be due to the success of the recent Ratchet and Clank reboot.

Stay tuned to Nerd Stash for more details as they surface.
