You’re supposed to feel safe at any hotel you are staying at. After all, you trust that security will keep you safe, right? But what if the danger came from the hotel staff themselves? Three California teens, including minors, were staying in a room at a hotel as they prepared for a water polo tournament. It was around midnight that one of the girls went to the door, only to find that someone was trying to break in. The innocent girl described how she was left terrified as she witnessed what was happening. It turns out that an employee at the hotel was the one behind this scary event. The guy had a makeshift tool to help him open the door from the outside. The tool was basically a wire, and it had a loop in it to catch the door’s handle and open it.
The 17-year-old girl, named Charlotte, shared with NBC News a video of the event. In the video, you can see her grabbing the wire and telling whoever is on the other side to go away. This horrible situation took place at the Marriott Delta Hotel in California. The hotel confirmed to those involved that the person who tried to do this was one of their employees. They also said that he is “no longer with the company.” Of course, the parents and the team’s coach filed a police report, but they didn’t get the expected outcome. For some reason, police decided that this incident “was not a criminal act.” The hotel even stated that this was part of a room check. How is this in any way a room check? It just doesn’t make sense.
People Reacting to the Creepy California Hotel Employee
Almost everyone was left terrified by the whole California incident. Since the hotel’s response was to send the girls a gift basket and some balloons, one person was quite outraged about this. “A gift basket?! I’d be suing left and right!” they wrote. Someone else believed that the hotel sent the gift basket in hopes that the families wouldn’t sue. “They can a still go for legal action I’d assume but that gift basket is the manager trying to stop them from thinking that way,” they guessed. To make matters worse, a hotel employee clarified that they do use this makeshift tool but the guy involved had ill intentions. The employee wrote, “Im a front desk agent- that is a n under-the-door tool, typically used to unlock doors mistakenly locked. That is 100% that employee misusing hotel tools to hurt those girls.”
People also found it weird that the California hotel would claim that this was a room check. “A room check at 12:30am yea right,” one person said in disbelief. Others wondered why he wasn’t arrested for what he did. “Why was he not arrested?” someone asked. One TikTok user also said, “not a criminal act?? Thats an attempted break in.” It should have been treated as such. Of course, gender had to be brought into the conversation as one woman wrote in disgust, “Men.” Even when one person asked, “What did the employee look like?” another woman replied and said, “a man.” Aside from the gender point, I really want to know how the guy wasn’t charged. Who knows what could have happened if he had managed to unlock the door?
