If you’re a Dungeons and Dragons fan or player, you’ve most likely heard of Critical Role. In 2015, a group of voice actors led by Matt Mercer started a podcast campaign known as Vox Machina. With impressive roleplay and equally impressive writing, it took the world by storm. Many say that Critical Role is mainly responsible for the current popularity of D&D as a result. A show has been in the works with some expected delays. That said, we finally have our first look at the trailer for Critical Role’s The Legend of Vox Machina series on Amazon Prime! It’s not the first D&D-based TV show, but it does happen to have a ton of hype.
Just What Is So Legendary About Vox Machina?
If you’re wondering if there’s anything special behind the name on this one, there isn’t. Simply put, the name was chosen because it means “voice machine,” a nod to the voice actor-filled party. That said, the so-called legend of Vox Machina that the Amazon Prime show gets its name is much more fantastic. What was expected to be a basic homemade campaign turned into a multi-year crusade! As the whole thing was live-streamed on Youtube, it gained even more popularity. It jettisoned the group into becoming one of the foremost D&D content creators out there. They even got to create some official D&D content for Wizards of the Coast.
The Critical Role Vox Machina adaptation trailer seems to do everything right. The usual amounts of snark, violence, and just general chaos from the real group are present. However, seeing as the series was originally a Kickstarter idea, that’s no surprise. Concept art has gotten a lot of publicity before, so it seems the series will do well. Expect something like Invincible, but a little less superhero and a little more fantasy.
The Legend of Vox Machina arrives on January 28 on Amazon Prime Video. Are you excited about the premiere? Leave a comment below with your thoughts!
