Critical Role has come a long way from its early days on Geek & Sundry’s Twitch channel. Nowadays, it’s flourished into its very own company, headed by what’s possibly the world’s most famous group of voice actors. The company is on a steep upwards trajectory, starting their own TTPRG, Candela Obscura, in 2023. In addition, Critical Role the company also bought Midst, which was initially an independent podcast but has now been going strong for two seasons on the company’s channel. Midst will begin its third season next month, but a new announcement has revealed that it’ll be the final season – but is the last we’ll see of the minds behind Midst?
Midst Draws To A Close, But Critical Role and Third Person Aren’t Finished Yet
Premiering in January 2020, Midst is a “space-western” that follows three “complicated anti-heroes”: a crotchety outlaw, a struggling cultist, and a diabolical bastard. Among other things, the trio must combat the threat of the moon falling out of the sky while also dealing with mundane crimes like murder. The podcast is narrated by Third Person, an anonymous group of three performers who take semi-omniscient views on the whole adventure as they retell it for the audience.
Metapigeon, Critical Role’s production banner, acquired Midst in March 2023, leading to the first two seasons being remastered and re-released to their platforms. The third season of Midst will be released on February 14th, and according to a press release put out by the company, the third season will be the podcast’s last. However, if the announcement is to be believed, this isn’t the last we’ll see of Third Person as they continue to collaborate with Critical Role.
Though Season Three will be our final season of Midst, rest assured this is NOT the last you’ll be hearing from these unreliable narrators! We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Third Person as we explore more of this truly original and unique world.”
Critical Role
