Scream VI is the highly anticipated next chapter in the iconic horror film franchise. Starting in the 1990s, the Scream series has both a mainstream and cult classic following. As with any long-running film franchise, not all Scream movies are perfect. However, Scream VI has been called a franchise-best by quite a few critics ahead of its release. The new Scream movie follows Scream V, which also got good reviews. However, most critics who have seen the upcoming film agree that the new one is better.
Currently, Scream VI has an 81% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In addition, it has a 67% rating on Metacritic. While these ratings may not sound significant, fans should note that horror films seldom get the level of reviews as drama or comedy films. Of course, once audiences see the film, there is always the chance the reviews will fluctuate up or down. Overall, there is a great deal of excitement regarding the new Scream movie. So far, 2023 has been a successful year for horror films, and Scream VI is on track to do well at the box office.
Scream VI hits theatres on March 10th, with some theatres releasing the film early on March 8th.
‘Scream VI’: What We Know So Far
Film studios try hard to keep spoilers at bay. Unfortunately, the plot of the new Scream movie, including the killer, was allegedly leaked. Of course, we say allegedly because the leaks could be, and hopefully are, false. However, what we do know is that this is the first Scream movie to take place in New York. From what critics have said, this makes the film feel like it’s gotten a much-needed boost. Sadly, fans also know that Neve Campbell is not in the new Scream movie. While some fans have expressed disappointment, those who have seen the film say she’s not necessarily missed.
Scream VI stars Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, and Hayden Panettiere. Cortney Cox also returns in the role of Gale Weathers. She is the only original cast member in Scream VI.
