Times have been tough, and food is getting harder to come by with the economy on the downward spiral that it’s been. ICE is now weaponizing this need by distributing flyers to students at Sullivan Elementary School in Minnesota, with offers of food support for their families. It’s hard to be surprised these days, as much cruelty has already taken place within just this month. Yet, taking advantage of children and families in need is certainly another level of inhumanity.
News that ICE agents were putting out food flyers at this elementary school was shared by music school teacher Steve McPherson. In a Bluesky post, McPherson assures, “This came from our middle school Signal chat, sent via Talking Points and confirmed by Anne Sullivan administration.” In the post, Sullivan Elementary warns parents of their students not to respond to ICE’s attempts to lure them out with promises of food support. Offering help with family groceries isn’t the only trick up ICE’s sleeve. One person in New Jersey claims that agents pose as UBER to trap their targets.
“So the feds took out SNAP and other assistance programs so ICE can take advantage of that to lure people in so they can, in turn, snatch them when they’re seeking food. I thought Nazi Germany was heartless and cruel!” exclaims a commenter. “This is repulsive. They’re luring people to get deported,” remarked another in disbelief. “They never cease to disgust me with their evil behaviour,” adds a third. “Spoofing legitimate food drives to entrap, and decrease trust in these community programs? It’s just so evil,” says a fourth.
Many point out how this “food support trap” was a tactic that Israel was guilty of attempting to employ on Gaza last year by using humanitarian aid as bait. Fortunately, the UN rejected this cruel and outrageous plan, yet the fact that Israel wanted to do it at all speaks volumes about how questionable the country’s leadership is. That said, the White House’s decision to allow ICE to employ “humanitarian aid” as bait for deportees is just as questionable. Hopefully, no one at Sullivan Elementary falls for the scheme and looks to safer resources for food support for their families.
