Cyberpunk 2077, Officially gone gold
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information.

At last, the phrase we’ve all wanted to hear in conjunction with Cyberpunk 2077 has been uttered. Cyberpunk 2077 has officially gone gold. We’re only slightly over one month away until we all deep-dive into Night City. Congratulations to the team at CD Projekt Red for being one step closer to finally launching what could be argued as the Game of The Year.

The journey to obtain gold status for any big-budget video game could already be labeled under titles as tedious or daunting. However, for CD Projekt Red, Cyberpunk 2077 seems to be their biggest and most ambitious project to date. These labels only represent a fraction of what it seems the studio has experienced to reach this milestone. Here’s how Cyberpunk 2077’s tumultuous journey to going gold unfolded.

During E3 2019, the initial launch date of April 16, 2020, had been announced. At the top of the year, Cyberpunk 2077 had been delayed to September 16, 2020. CD Projekt Red stated that the game was playable and complete, but the studio needed more time for playtesting, fixing, and polishing.

This date would stand firm until June 2020 when another delay would be announced for Cyberpunk 2077. The release date, which is currently set for November 19, was announced. CD Projekt Red stated that the game was finished, but extra time was needed to balance game mechanics and fix bugs. While met with criticism, the reception to this announcement seemed to be fair as the world of Cyberpunk 2077 is believed to be massive and full of life.

This has proven to be the most difficult process for CD Projekt Red. Through several delays, and even recent reports of crunch development – Cyberpunk 2077 has officially gone gold and on schedule to launch on time. Once again, congratulations to the team at CD Projekt Red. I can’t wait to experience what all your hard work has created. Are you as excited to ride through Night City as I am?
