After more or less seven months of digital purgatory, CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 is back alive and kicking on the PlayStation Store. CD Projekt Red announced today that the much-maligned open-world action RPG is now once again available for digital purchase worldwide on Sony’s digital storefront. Sony pulled the game from its digital storefront on December 17, 2021, in the wake of a litany of bugs and performance issues plaguing the PlayStation 4 version of the once highly-anticipated game.

The announcement comes with some curious wording, not least in a tweet authored by the official Cyberpunk 2077 account, which notes that players can now play the game on PlayStation 4 Pro and PlayStation 5, with no mention of the base PlayStation 4 console. An attached tweet parroted by a press release published by CD Projekt Red today appears to shed light on this, noting:

Users may continue to experience some performance issues with the PS4 edition while CD PROJEKT RED further works to improve stability across all platforms. Playing on PS4 Pro and PS5 will provide the best Cyberpunk 2077 experience on PlayStation.”

Sony also jumped into the fray on Twitter with a stark warning. Despite the developer’s efforts to remedy Cyberpunk 2077 many technical issues since Sony unceremoniously removed it from the PlayStation Store last December, the PlayStation 4 experience still isn’t up to scratch.

Cyberpunk 2077 is now available at PlayStation Store. Work on the PS4 version continues, with fixes and updates to be released throughout the year: https://t.co/XWCfOEQrLS For the best experience on PlayStation, playing on PS4 Pro or PS5 consoles is recommended.

On the official PS Store listing, Sony goes even further, outright advising against purchasing Cyberpunk 2077 for PlayStation 4:

Users continue to experience performance issues with this game. Purchase for use on PS4 systems is not recommended. For the best Cyberpunk experience on PlayStation, play on PS4 Pro and PS5 systems.”

CD Projekt Red also reiterated its commitment to a free next-gen PlayStation 5 upgrade, scheduled for the second half of 2021. In the meantime, the developer notes that PS5 players can play Cyberpunk 2077 via backward compatibility.
