Cyberpunk 2077, the futuristic open-world RPG that’s had its share of ups and downs since its December 2020 debut, has officially hit 18 million copies sold across all platforms! The news was announced during its latest financial earnings report which you can find on the CD Projekt Red site. The fresh numbers come hot on the heels of the recent major update to the game, which brought not just hundreds of bug fixes but the brand new next-gen versions of the game as well.
Alongside Cyberpunk, the team was also happy to announce that The Witcher game series has sold 65 million copies to date, with 40 million of those sales being directly due to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Given the game has seen massive popularity since its 2015 release, the numbers make a lot of sense. That also isn’t including the upcoming next-gen versions of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which are sure to send sales skyrocketing if Cyberpunk’s success is anything to go off of.
Speaking of the team’s other projects, the team also shared their plans for the remainder of 2022. Alongside plans for development work on the next-gen versions, the team is also crafting the next game in the same franchise, support for Cyberpunk 2077 (including the upcoming expansion), a single-player mode of the GWENT card game, additional support for it and the team’s other side projects, and more! While none of the projects seem to have a confirmed release window, news that they’re being worked on is nice to see nonetheless.
Beyond the nitty-gritty of both the team’s profits and costs, the team finally shared their current split of the company’s teams on various projects. While the vast majority of the company is working on other projects, a significant portion of the company is now working on the new CP2077 expansion, alongside another group supporting Cyberpunk 2077′s further bug fixing. Otherwise, the last big group seems to be working on GWENT-related projects.
With all that covered though, what are your thoughts on Cyberpunk 2077 reaching 18 million copies sold alongside its other achievements? What do you hope the team releases next? Let me know!
