Cyberpunk developers released their game to mixed reviews. Even after all the work, it suffered glitch after glitch on multiple systems. This was to the dismay of the developers, despite their hopes being high. In addition to dealing with glitch after glitch, there is something else to combat as well. The company behind Cyberpunk 2077 stated the project files had been hacked.

Cyberpunk Developers Combat Infringement with DMCA Takedown

Cyberpunk Developers DMCA Takedown

While glitches are certainly a pain, they don’t take up time when handled swiftly. Developers tend to work swiftly to correct most of the ones encountered. And though some go unnoticed, getting hacked is something that game companies are all too familiar with. In order to combat the recent hack, Cyberpunk developers have been hard at work. This came in the form of a DMCA takedown.

Reports of the stolen source code had been released earlier this month. This was in addition to personal information and other source codes, such as from Gwent. Before the DMCA takedown notices, CD Projekt RED had been threatened. Either they were to pay the ransom, or the hacked source code and employee information would be released. Naturally, the Cyberpunk developers stood their ground.

Here is the description of one of the DMCA takedown notices: “Description of infringement: Illegally obtained source code of Gwent: The Witcher Card Game. Posted without authorization, not intended to be released to the public.”

Any Twitter users who had linked to any of the released info received an infringement notice. When asked about the details of the data breach, CD Projekt RED did not immediately respond with a comment. While this might be worrisome, it’s more than likely the company is still investigating what happened.

What do you think this means for the Cyberpunk 2077 developers? Could the breach hurt the company’s current projects worse than it has already? Let me know in the comments!
