Daisy Ridley of Star Wars Fame is in negotiations to star in psychological crime-thriller The Ice Beneath Her.
Financed by STX, the film will be produced by Andrew Lazar (American Sniper) and directed by filmmaker trio – comprising of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, and Chad Villella- Radio Silence (Ready Or Not).
Based on Swedish author Camilla Grebe’s 2015 bestselling novel, the story of the film is similar in tone to Gone Girl and The Girl On The Train, particularly gaining popularity for making use of the unreliable narrator trope.
The story revolves around a psychological profiler and detective as they work to solve a case that begins when a woman is found beheaded in a well-known businessman’s home – the investigation soon becomes a race against time.
The project is set to be in-demand British actress Ridley ‘s first outing post-Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Up next, Ridley is set to appear in big-budget Lionsgate film Chaos Walking, a dystopian YA sci-fi novel adaptation– currently in post-production and due for release in 2021 – opposite Tom Holland.
The 2019 epic Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker which Ridley was part of became the third-highest-grossing movie in the storied sci-fi franchise, and while she has delivered well-received projects like Murder On The Orient Express in-between her sci-fi adventures, The Ice Beneath Her will likely be the first test of the actor’s skills beyond the genre that she’s established herself in
The novel was adapted for screen by Caitlin Parrish, who is the writer of Berlanti Productions’ Supergirl and The Red Line. On behalf of Swedish literary agency, The Ahlander Agency which represents Grebe ,WME and Keith Fleer have handled the screen rights to the novel.
For STX -which recently announced a merger with Indian establishment Eros International to become Eros STX Global Corp- the project will be overseen by Drew Simon, Kevin Sauer, and Sam Brown. Additional casting discussions are still underway for multiple fantastic roles.
