Joining an iconic IP as a new character puts you up in the air, awaiting how fans will react. It has been nearly a decade since Daisy Ridley as Rey in Star Wars, and it still “surprises” her when people talk to her about the Skywalker. For her, being “a part” of the universe is “thrilling” even after these years since her 2015 debut in The Force Awakens.
The sequel trilogy was a divisive part of Star Wars history. While it was not the first time the franchise got into heated discourse, it brought heat to the new wave of actors. Some may never return, like Oscar Isaac and John Boyega. Meanwhile, Daisy Ridley will reprise her role as Rey for a new Star Wars entry.
Daisy Ridley Talks Star Wars Fans Giving Rey Love
In an interview with Collider, the star looked back at her time as the Jedi. She called the experience “interesting” because she “felt just part of something” while never thinking about her “place in the thing.” While she may view herself as a part of it, she did lead the trilogy, which led to new fans gushing over her character, who became a new icon among a roster of some of the most beloved characters in history. For her, it “surprises” her when fans express that love for Rey.
It still surprises me when people are kind about her particularly, because of course people love Star Wars, but I’m always like, “Oh, thanks.” It’s still so thrilling. I think I love her as a character and I loved the characters around her and I love the people in it. It feels quite wonderful. I think if I thought about it too much my head would explode because it’s so not overwhelming in a bad way, but like, wow overwhelming.
Daisy Ridley to Collider on Rey
The feelings have not gone away when signing up for a new project. Last year, it was announced she would lead another installment of the swashbuckling franchise with Oscar-winning director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who is known for documentaries and her work on Ms. Marvel. Coming to the stage at Star Wars Celebration was an emotional one. The star felt the emotions, but it also served as a “reminder of how people feel about Rey.”
We have three separate dates across 2026 and 2027 for the next Star Wars movies. It is unconfirmed which of those will be Rey’s next adventure, but we at least know it is in the foreseeable future, as big-screen spectacles in the galaxy are in development.
