A new Daredevil limited series is putting the blind Marvel hero back in black. This November, the retro series Daredevil: Black Armor puts Matt Murdock back in the black suit from the 1990s. This new (old?) Daredevil comes from writer D.G. Chichester alongside artists Netho Diaz and JP Mayer. The four-issue series brings readers back to Chichester’s iconic 90s run with the Devil of Hells Kitchen. However, this time around, the writer is holding nothing back.
Daredevil: Black Armor
Daredevil is going back to black in a never-before-seen chapter of Chichester’s run. According to a synopsis of the series, Matt Murdock is putting those enhanced senses and his armored suit into overdrive. All to find the party responsible for taking civilians, heroes, and even a villain or two. This limited series sees Daredevil going toe-to-toe with some of Marvel’s deadliest. They include Hobgoblin, Sabretooth, and more. It is all leading Daredevil, and readers, to a must-see confrontation. But who is behind these disappearances, and are Murdock’s abilities and armor enough to stop them?
Daredevil: Black Armor brings all the action of a classic 90s Marvel comic.
A Blast From The Past
Writer D.G. Chichester is excited to once again step into the shoes of Matt Murdock. Speaking on the limited series, he shares that this opportunity is an unexpected “but welcome” thrill, especially as he gets to return to Daredevil as he left him — black armor and all. However, this endeavor is not without its challenges. The writer shared that hopping back into Daredevil’s world decades later is like “knowing how to jump off a rooftop.” Even though you know what you are doing, you never know exactly where and how you will land.
However, Chichester is hopeful that fans of his previous Daredevil work, like “Fall From Grace,” will find joy in returning to his Matt. After all, it is emboldened in a new way through artists Netho Diaz and JP Mayer.
Daredevil: Black Armor #1 hits stands on November 22, 2023.
