It’s been said a million times so far, but DC and Warner brothers need to get a better handle on their cinematic universe. Man of Steel, Batman v. Superman and Suicide Squad were not that well received. They are desperately trying to course correct.
Warner Bros. said quite awhile ago that their rebooted Green Lantern film, titled Green Lantern Corps is slated for release July 24, 2020. It was also confirmed last January that David S. Goyer will helm the screenplay. Goyer has been writing and doing screenplays for Warner for years now. He’s worked on the Dark Knight trilogy and the most recent DC superhero films. So, will bringing him aboard to write and possibly direct the newest Green Lantern film be a good idea?
Goyer has a spotty track record. The Dark Knight is one of the most critically acclaimed films of all time, but Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengence is not. Even the third film in the Nolan trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises had flaws and some laughable dialog provided by Goyer.
Another unconfirmed rumor is the aformentioned Green Lantern Corps will be an adaptation of the popular comic book arc, The Sinestro Corp Wars. Sinestro is the Green Lantern’s number one villian, and he was played by Mark Strong in the 2011 Green Lantern film that bombed. Another rumor is the Green Lantern Corps will star the duo of Hal Jordan and John Stewart. They’re two of the most popular Green Lanterns in the DC universe.
As of now, Goyer directing is just a hot rumor, but Warner Bros is certinaly fast tracking a new Green Lantern to coexist in their current DC Cinematic Universe of movies. Since The Flash movie has already lost several directors, Warner seems to be trying to lock things down tight so that doesn’t happen again.
