Days of Our Lives is one of daytime TV’s iconic soap operas. Like many long-running daytime dramas, the show sometimes gets in a rut when it comes to storytelling. But the series is making changes to its writing team. As reported by Soap Opera Network, former General Hospital co-head writer Dan O’Connor has joined the Peacock series as a scriptwriter.
O’Connor’s new job comes four months after being fired from the ABC soap opera. When asked about his new role at the Peacock drama, O’Connor expressed his excitement to Soap Opera Network.
I’ve been very fortunate that I joined Days of Our Lives. I’m very excited to be a member of that team and just happy to still be in this genre that I love so much.
While O’Connor is thrilled about his new job, some people aren’t happy.
Days of Our Lives Fans Disappointed With Dan O’Connor’s Hiring
O’Connor started working at General Hospital in 2013 as a scriptwriter before being promoted to co-head writer in 2019. During his time at the ABC drama, viewers criticized him for his lack of creative storytelling.
With O’Connor joining Days of Our Lives, fans have little hope for the Peacock soap opera. On X, fans expressed their opinions about the new writing team member.
One commenter thought things would get worse for the show:
I’m sorry, but I don’t consider this Dan O’Connor news good for #Days. He’s actually going to be writing scripts. I just don’t think he’s a missing piece that’s needed. We have a #GH flunkie head writing the show already. Enough is enough.
One viewer was remaining neutral until his episodes start airing:
Well, I’ve heard from 2 different people, plus one in my mentions that Dan O’Connor is a breakdown writer at #Days. I actually think he’s not terrible as long as the overall ideas belong to someone else. Time will tell.
Another fan thought O’Connor would be an upgrade:
Seeing a lot of hate for Dan O’Connor – probably warranted – but his #GH had fans pretty passionate and engaged, no?
The bar so low at #Days I feel like *any* new energy is an automatic upgrade, sad as that is to say.
O’Connor’s latest writing gig will reunite him with his pal and former boss Ron Carlivati. The two previously worked together on General Hospital, where Carlivati served as head writer from 2012 to 2015.
With O’Connor and Carlivati reunited, it’ll be interesting to see what storylines they create. Days of Our Lives has been in a creative slump lately, so having a new writer on the team could bring fresh material. Much like his time on General Hospital, O’Connor is bound to face criticism once his scripts air. Fans will have to wait and see if O’Connor’s jump from Port Charles to Salem is a hit or a miss.
