Dead Island 2 has been coming for almost a decade with no confirmed release date in sight. But after it was finally confirmed, fans found out today that Dead Island 2 has been delayed once again. The original Dead Island was quite successful and garnered a pretty sizable fanbase back in 2011. But it wasn’t exactly a great game by every metric. While it was fun, it was also short on story and gameplay variety, but even so, fans still thought it deserved a sequel.
The sequel in question, Dead Island 2, has been in the works ever since but has not had the smoothest development. Different developers have dropped and picked up the game, delayed it indefinitely, and completely vanished for a fairly long period. But despite the delay, Dead Island 2 made a comeback during the summer with a solid February 3, 2023 release date. But it seems the game will not be able to make that release date after all.
Dead Island 2 Delayed
According to an earning report from Embracer Group, Dead Island 2 has been delayed to April 28. As the developer Deep Silver is owned by Embracer Group, the publisher mentioning it in an earnings report is as official as it gets. And at this point, it makes sense since Dead Island 2 has not been getting the marketing treatment that a game coming out so soon would normally get. If it is any consolation to Dead Island 2 fans, the company did confirm via Twitter that it will spend the extra 12 weeks to polish the game further and hopefully deliver a product that fans can appreciate. There will also be a new trailer that will showcase some gameplay on December 6 via official Dead Island channels.
It is entirely possible that this delay is not related to quality at all and is more of a strategic decision. Since other heavy hitters are also coming out around the same time frame as the Dead Island 2 release date before the delay. Games like Hogwarts Legacy, Dead Space remake, and a few more are dangerously close to the Dead Island 2 release date. Either way, the delay should work out for fans and developers alike.
