Dead Space 4 was reportedly in the cards at one point in time but EA wasn’t interested. This comes from the creator of the series, Glen Schofield, and other developers from the team who worked in the original title.

Glen Schofield was the director of the original Dead Space that came out in 2008, and Bret Robbins was the creative director, while Christopher Stone was the animation director. The three talked about the idea of making Dead Space 4 in a recent interview.

Schofield said:

We tried actually, you know, the three of us yeah, we tried [to make] Dead Space 4,

All of them wanted to do it, Stone said, and the pitch then went to EA this year, in 2024, but the idea was rejected outright. Before the discussion went too deep, EA said that this isn’t the project the company wants to work on right now. So the conversation didn’t move forward at all, since EA knows all the sales figures and probably wasn’t very hopeful.

Stone said that the industry is in an odd situation right now, and people are apprehensive of taking risks on new games, and would much rather make safer games that are more like what the industry is used to and thus, have a higher chance of performing well. He added that maybe in the future the times will encourage makes games like Dead Space 4.

According to some reports that came out in April of this year, the recent Dead Space game failed to meet EA’s expectations in terms of sales, and although the team has some great ideas for the future of the franchise, they may never get to showcase them.

Motive, the studio behind the recent Dead Space Remake was considering remaking Dead Space 2, but the low sales mean that this will not come to pass. The Motive team has been moved to aid the Battlefield development team instead.
