Deadpool 3 is finally moving on with production after being picked up by Marvel to produce. Originally thought to be another casualty of the Fox and Disney merger; it seems that Marvel Studios has a plan for the series after all. Being the most successful X-Men franchise in the Fox universe, the move is quite obvious. This would of course star Ryan Reynolds returning as the titular Deadpool and would feature some new writers as well. Deadline has reported Wendy and Lizzie Molyneux will write the third installment in the Deadpool franchise.

Previously working on the writing for the Fox television show, Bob’s Burgers, the Molyneux sisters are shifting their focus to Deadpool as their first superhero film. Debuting their new television series The Great North in February, the sisters have garnered quite the reputation. Receiving multiple awards and nominations for Bob’s Burgers, Wendy and Lizzie Molyneux have certainly been making great content for Fox. Deadpool 3 will mark the first time Marvel Studios has worked closely with the production team of Deadpool and the first R rated film the studio has worked on from the ground up.
Despite the unknowns surrounding the production schedule and even a directorial pick, the film has a long way to go before fans will get to see their favorite mercenary with a mouth on the silver screen. The timeframe of this announcement during the pandemic makes this utterly clear, Marvel is looking ahead to release the film in another few years. Still, the film’s early development is a good sign of progress to be made on developing this sequel further as Disney finds a way to cast crew members during this uncertain time. With hopes high after Kevin Feige’s involvement with Sony on Spider-Man went well, Marvel Studios should have no trouble making a new title in this Deadpool trilogy.
