Deadpool was not only the highest grossing rated R movie of all time, it was also one of the best (anti) superhero movies ever. While a large part of that is due in thanks to the obscene wit and candor of the Merc with the Mouth himself – and more importantly Ryan Reynolds seamless portrayal – he certainly didn’t do it alone.
While Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead (That’s so cool!) may be characterized as B-grade X-men by Wade Wilson in the film, they played very important roles in the film’s success. Not only did their opposition of Deadpool provide one of the best scenes in the film (by hand), it also allowed for some other (comedic) conflict outside of Francis.
Colossus cliche do-gooder methodology and Warheads silent, angsty actions provided the perfect blend of heroism next to Deadpool. The spectrum of Good (Colossus), Neutrel (Warhead), and pretty much evil (Deadpool) is a recipe for success and is a refreshing take on the superhero genre without being too skewed toward villainy.
In a recent interview with Collider, screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick agreed, revealing that the duo would be returning for the sequel.
“I think we can say. Yeah, they’ll be in the sequel,” said Reese .
Co-writer Wernick added that “they’ll make at least an appearance,” so their exact roles for the film – and almost as importantly, Cables’- is still unknown. As of now Deadpool 2 is currently slated for a 2018 release date, leaving plenty of time for more information to reveal itself, or even for script changes.
One can hope and speculate that their inclusion in the sequel could be one of the many steps in the possibilities of an X-Force movie – come on Fox just make a deal already – but only time will tell. Be sure to check back to the site for updates on both Deadpool and all your Nerd News.
