Deep Blue Sea, better known as the movie where a giant ass shark eats Samuel L. Jackson and is later killed by LL Cool J, is getting a sequel almost two decades after it’s original release. Unsurprisingly, the second interaction of the Sci-Fi thriller will be a straight to TV movie, joining other popcorn classics like Lake Placid and the Sharknado series on the Syfy network.
News of the sequel broke when the site Moviehole learned that the film was currently shooting in Cape Town. Ever since the news broke, details have also been emerging in regards to what Deep Blue Sea 2 will be about.
Don’t hold out hope for any of your favorites from the original coming back though, as the sequel will feature an all new set of victims. Though to be fair not many survived the first movie anyway.
The second installment is going center around Dr. Klaus Van Etten’s experiments on Bulldog sharks and how it (shockingly) goes awry. Alongside Van Etten, the shark’s prey will be the group of marine experts, who protested the doctor’s experiments all along, led by a young woman named Misty.
This isn’t the first proposed sequel for Deep Blue Sea though, as it was revealed that Warner premiere was all set to shoot a straight to DVD follow up was set to feature surgically enhanced sharks equipped with machine guns and torpedoes. Unfortunately, the world was deprived of the promised masterpiece after Warner Premiere stated that the DVD market was drying up.
The sequel will be directed by Darin Scott (House Party: Tonight’s the Night) directing and is will star Michael Beach (The 100). For more information on a sequel that most never thought they’d see, stay tuned to the site for more updates, as well as all of your other Nerdy News!
