A California TikToker blasted the hate Indians receive, claiming this stems from a lack of empathy. She specifically calls out making racist jokes at the expense of Indians. The woman argues that, in response to such comments, “the only thing we can do now is use our voice.”
It started when she saw a video posted on TikTok where an “Indian girl [joked], if there’s one billion people in India, how come we don’t have a soccer team?” But when she looked at the comments of the video, the California woman was shocked at the alleged racism she saw. She posts a few of those in the videos. One of the comments reads: “Have to wear deodorant, it’s a FIFA rule!” She continues to explain the “main reason this all irks [her]” is “because Indian hate lacks any empathy.”
An example the California woman uses is that after a plane crash in India, people joked in the comments. She claims comments read: “It probably smelled so bad in there.” In response to these comments, she feels people should speak out. She states, “You don’t need to put up with this stuff anymore.” For her, the last straw is when Indian Americans support the jokes, calling it “light humor.” The TikToker argues, “Nothing about hatred like that is light-hearted.” She elaborates by saying supporting those jokes and comments only “encourages more people to keep doing that.” Her video has been viewed over 74,000 times and has over 16,000 likes.
Many Support California Her Argument
Several support the California woman in the comments, thanking her for speaking out. One backs her comments, stating, “Genuinely, all of our attempts will be set back because some idiot decided to say, I’m indian this is funny.” The woman agrees, calling the comments “the lowest hanging fruit.” Another agrees, “It’s so weird and so normalized.”
Others encourage her to never stop speaking out. One says, “Because of influencers like you, we are finally able to bring this conversation to the forefront.” Another commenter claims they’ve been waiting for someone to make a video like this. They state, “I WAS WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO MENTION THIS!” One commenter states, “This is so important, and people just don’t realize it.”
The California woman plans to keep speaking out against racist comments and hate.
