An Arkansas homeowner had an unpleasant surprise while attempting to inspect his kitchen sink’s pipework beneath his home. The water in the sink apparently wasn’t going down, so he went into the crawlspace under the house to get a better look at what was amiss. What he couldn’t have expected was to put his finger right through the cast iron waste pipe.

Reddit user AdKey9344, the homeowner, shared a video of him attempting to repair the sink’s pipe on r/Wellthatsucks. Based on his “Oh My God” reaction, he didn’t expect the pressure from his finger to break open the cast iron waste line. Besides the claustrophobic setting of being inside a crawlspace, many found the dire situation of being underneath one’s home while water gushed from a pipe to be nothing short of terrifying.

“Every man’s worst nightmare,” remarked a commenter. “I genuinely would be so lost and terrified in this situation,” wrote another. “There’s nothing like being under a house and nowhere to run when the water hits the fan or ground or you or everything,” added a third. “There’s a reason why plumbers make so much money,” expressed a fourth.

The Arkansas Homeowner Turned Out to Be a Plumber and Fixing the Broken Pipe Was a Breeze for Him

In response to a commenter criticizing OP for messing around with the underground pipes, the Arkansas homeowner revealed that he wasn’t just some amateur. “I’m a commercial plumber; I got it fixed in about an hour. It was a clogged drain line, not a water line,” he responded promptly. All it took was allegedly a quick run to Lowe’s, and he had all he needed to do the job.

For anyone who didn’t believe AdKey9344, he shared a time-lapse video in the comments of his successful repair. As to why the sink’s cast iron pipe was so corroded, OP explained that his home was around 100 years old. It’s gone through many owners and layers of fixes over the decades, so something was bound to give out eventually.
