The Super Bowl has come and gone, but one thing that will linger for much longer (outside of Drake taking a massive L via Kendrick) is the absolute beatdown the two-time defending champions took. It was unlikely that they would get crushed by an equal team on this measure, but what if the loss had more to do with some good old-fashioned New Orleans voodoo than poor football preparation? That is what some Reddit users claim happened to Travis Kelce and his Kansas City Chiefs.
Indeed, New Orleans, home to some of the most well-traveled and experienced voodoo experts, southern ghost stories, and haunted jaunts, is no stranger to spooky superstition. It didn’t take long for fans and citizens of the bayou to point out the wrath that one foolish tight end placed on himself and his team by disrespecting New Orleans’s famous cuisine.
Two users, black_magicwoman and honestypen, each had a Reddit thread in the r/NewOrleans page that pointed out the mind-boggling loss wasn’t a matter of game plans or X and O’s but good old-fashioned karma. Travis Kelce was outspoken before the game and took umbrage with some classic New Orleans dishes, including gumbo itself. Users were quick to comment in both threads and put him to the torch for the culinary disrespect.
“Totally. I get not liking gumbo. It’s def heavy on seafood flavoring and that not for everyone.“
“But don’t be a d*** about it. Also Jambalaya is amazing and he’s 100% in the wrong for not liking it.”
“Travis Kelce eats saltine crackers with ketchup on them for dinner every night.”
“A man with the palette of a child is an IMMEDIATE no. It’s a sign of low intelligence, no curiosity, fixed mindset, and generally approximately one brain cell firing at any given moment. New Orleans has the best food in the WORLD. And I’ve eaten all over the world. He can go back to eating chicken nuggets with ketchup and kindly never return to this incredible city.”
Whatever the case might be, we can’t rule out this possibility after the Philadelphia Eagles’ whipping of the Kansas City Chiefs in the big game. Travis Kelce may rue the day he decided to talk down on the locals’ favorite foods and traditions.
