Meghan Markle reportedly had no intention to remain a full-working royal in the UK even before her royal wedding to Prince Harry. The Suits alum retired from acting in 2017 to begin her new life as a working royal and wife to a British prince. However, after a grand wedding in 2018, and briefly exploring the royal life, the Duchess gave up the glitz and glam of royalty, for the Hollywood appeal, shockingly having her royal spouse tag along in what has been dubbed “Megxit.” Nearly five years down the line, the Duchess has yet to make her showbiz comeback but continues to rely on her royal family-acquired recognition.
Royal correspondent Jennie Bond recently discussed the fault in Meghan’s grand plan to enjoy the best of both worlds, which could have been the main driving force behind marrying into the royal family. The expert divulged,
“I have always had the view that Meghan failed to understand that she would never be the top dog in the royal family or even deputy top dog… There’s absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to be in complete control and charge of your life. There’s nothing wrong with seeking the limelight. It’s just that the royal family was the wrong vehicle for her ambitions.”
Meghan Markle Never Intended to Remain a Working Royal After Wedding
Another royal expert revealed that Meghan Markle had plans to leave the UK after her royal wedding in motion from the start. However, things did not pan out the way she anticipated, as along with Megxit went the love and respect she commanded as a working senior royal. Speaking to The Sun, the royal correspondent, Phil Dampier suggested the duchess “always planned to leave,” eventually using the strain of the royal life on her mental health as the ideal excuse. Phil divulged,
“To be honest, I don’t think he even intended to stay in the royal family. Unfortunately, I think she was prepared to have a wonderful wedding costing millions of pounds, but I don’t think her heart was ever really in it, and I think she always planned to leave. So the proof of the pudding is in the eating, and that’s what we’re seeing now.”
Phil Dampier also condemned Prince Harry’s desire to step away from his royal duties soon after his wedding to Meghan Markle, while still keeping his royal privileges. He regarded it as the prince wanting to “have his cake and eat it.”
While the Sussexes’ concept of “being half in and half out” was clearly flawed from the start, their decision to make money off casting dirt on the royal family in their Netflix documentary and in Harry’s memoir Spare in addition to the explosive revelations in the Oprah interview closed off that window for good. Even with talks of a reconciliation between the Sussexes and the monarchy surfacing, it is unlikely that the royal family would be soon to forget how far they were willing to go, driven by Meghan’s ambition.
