Security guards everywhere realize that they can find themselves in dangerous situations. After all, it’s not the safest job out there. They might predict exchanging some punches with customers, but they could never expect that they would lose their thumb one day. An altercation took place at a Kroger in Ohio between a deranged Black man and a security guard. The guard was working at the store for around 30 days, and during that time, the Black man trespassed six or seven times. The last time the security guard tried to escort the man out ended terribly for him. Unfortunately, the guy bit off a part of the innocent guard’s thumb. That’s definitely terrifying. You can even hear him saying something that sounds like “I will eat you up, my brother.”
Those at the store stood watching, probably afraid to face someone who had just taken off someone else’s thumb. An employee there kept saying “Chill out” and “Just leave” while the guard was in pain. You can see that he lost a part of his thumb on his right hand, and fortunately, you don’t see that lost part. That would have been enough to make anyone throw up. The crazy Ohio man didn’t leave it at that, but he also kept pulling the guy’s hair before he finally left. Thankfully, he was later arrested. According to 10 WBNS, “He was indicted Friday on one count of felonious assault and aggravated burglary, both counts carry a repeat violent offender specification.” I hope the security guard will be able to recover from this. His condition is stable but the whole thing is traumatizing.
People Reacting to the Deranged Ohio Black Man’s Actions
It’s not every day that you see someone biting off another person’s thumb. This left a lot of people shocked at what they just saw. They also sympathized with the security guard after what he went through. This made one person write, “Jesus I hope he get a huge compensation pay off for that but I fear he won’t, they will probably just fire him.” Another person was upset that the security guard wouldn’t be treated well after this attack. “Imagine they tell him No thumb print → no guard card → no severance pay → fired. That’s one way to ruin someone’s life.
People also found it weird that the Ohio security guard didn’t use his gun. “Why gun if not use gun?” one person asked. This made someone joke and say, “No thumb.” Now, that’s unfortunate. Another person believed that not shooting the unhinged guy was the right thing to do. “Because that would be [expletive]. Deadly force can only be used if life is at risk, the situation sucks for this guy but his life was not at risk,” they wrote. This made one Redditor add, “If you’re losing body parts that probably fits the bill, no?” That’s a good point. Someone else described how they would have acted as they said, “So I’m a security guard and I’m armed. Someone bites off a piece of my body that I kind of need and I’m like OK let him go because somebody says let him go. Dude went into the wrong line of work. The second anyone’s teeth opened up on my skin. I am drawing my f**king weapon.” I have to agree that the guard should have defended himself.
