The Hammerhead Machine Gun has been around in Destiny 2 for quite some time, but with the recent Into the Light update, things have changed a bit. That being said, there will be all new ways to get the Hammerhead, great new methods for farming, and new perks and traits, which means all new God Rolls. The Hammerhead is already a pretty amazing Machine Gun, but now, there have been some pretty notable differences. The Hammerhead hasn’t gone anywhere, but with the new Exclusive BRAVE Arsenal ornament available for it, it’s absolutely worth farming now. Let’s take a look at how to get and farm the Hammerhead Machine Gun in Destiny 2 as well as the God Rolls for it.
How To Unlock and Obtain Hammerhead
If you want to get the Hammerhead for your own arsenal, it’ll need to be unlocked in the Hall of Champions beforehand. To unlock the Hammerhead, you’ll need to complete the accompanying Arcite 99-40 weapon quest. This quest is called Bring Down the Hammer, and can be picked up in the Hall of Champions from Arcite, who can be found standing near Lord Shaxx at the front of the hall. To complete the quest, you’ll need to get a substantial amount of kills with Machine Guns. However, you can get more credit per kill by getting them in Onslaught. Once you’ve gotten your kills, you’ll need to speak with Shaxx, and set your Attunement to the Hammerhead Machine Gun within the Hall of Champions from the correct Holo-Shaxx.

To get any of the new BRAVE Arsenal weapons, there are some pretty easy methods. These methods work on weapons like the Hammerhead, Succession, and The Mountaintop, or any weapon included in the Brave Arsenal. Head to the Hall of Champions and find the Holo-Shaxx that can be found holding the Hammerhead Machine Gun. Interact with that Holo-Shaxx to set your Attunement to that weapon.
With your Attunement set to the Hammerhead weapon, you’ll net a 50% chance to drop the Hammerhead whenever you complete an Into the Light activity like Onslaught. So, whenever you complete a set of 10 waves in Onslaught, you’ll have a 50% chance to get the weapon you are Attuned to rather than any other random ones. In short, the best way to farm the Hammerhead is to Attune to it.

Destiny 2 Hammerhead: God Rolls
The Hammerhead happens to be one of those weapons that tends to be good for whatever you want to use it for. Whether it’s a Vanguard Strike or a super sweaty Crucible match, you can typically take Hammerhead in with you and absolutely shred any enemy that comes your way. Given some of the new perks available in the BRAVE Arsenal version of the Hammerhead Machine Gun, you’ll be able to stack up some pretty good damage and come out on top.
Hammerhead PvE God Roll
Weapon Slot/Trait | Roll | Effect |
Barrel | Smallbore | +7 Stability +7 Range |
Magazine | Flared Magwell | +14 Reload Speed +5 Stability |
Basic Trait 1 | Rewind Rounds | When this weapon’s magazine is empty, it refills from reserves based on the number of hits. |
Basic Trait 2 | Killing Tally | Kills increase this weapon’s damage until it is stowed or reloaded. |
Origin Trait | Indomitability | Final blows grant grenade energy when playing a Light subclass or melee energy when playing a Darkness subclass. |
Masterwork | Handling | +10 Handling, Improves Weapon Swap and Ready Speed |
With perks like Rewind Rounds and Killing Tally, you’ll be able to eliminate quite a bit of annoying reload time, because honestly, we all know how irritating Machine Gun reload speeds are. With that in mind, you’ll be able to tear through combatants at a fast pace without having to pause to dump a few seconds into reloading super often.
Hammerhead PvP God Roll
Weapon Slot/Trait | Roll | Effect |
Barrel | Hammer-Forged Rifling | +10 Range |
Magazine | Accurized Rounds | +10 Range |
Basic Trait 1 | Rampge | Kills with this weapon temporarily grant increased damage. Stacks 3x. |
Basic Trait 2 | Tap the Trigger | Grants a short period of increased stability and accuracy on initial trigger pull. |
Origin Trait | Indomitability | Final blows grant grenade energy when playing a Light subclass or melee energy when playing a Darkness subclass. |
Masterwork | Stability | +10 Stability, vastly decreases weapon recoil. |
For PvP gameplay, the Hammerhead is best used with heightened range and stability. Rampage, while refreshing after each kill, gives you the option to stack damage which can be great for getting enemy Guardian kills, and Tap the Trigger gives you increased stability and accuracy when you first pull the trigger. With the sometimes wild recoil that comes with Machine Guns, this can be great for keeping your crosshairs on a specific enemy. Together, Crucible eliminations will be quick and easy to get.
Destiny 2 is now available on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation consoles.
