“Empty Grief” is a Seasonal Challenge in Destiny 2 that tasks Guardians to complete the mission “Sever – Grief” with only a Void subclass and Void, Kinetic, or Stasis weaponry. In other words, players will need to create a competent Void loadout to fulfill this challenge. “Sever – Grief” serves as the third mission in the Season of the Haunted‘s quest, “Bound in Sorrow.” For this quest, Guardians must follow a series of jumping puzzles and defeat Scorn enemies inside the Leviathan to find and defeat the Nightmare of Kethiks. However, “Empty Grief” is not working as intended for some, causing the task to remain incomplete, even after a successful run in Destiny 2.
Completing the Empty Grief Seasonal Challenge in Destiny 2
One thing that might cause the “Empty Grief” Seasonal Challenge to fail in Destiny 2 is using weapons with explosive perks, such as Firefly. Additionally, avoid detonating the Solar barrels during the mission if possible. Another action that Guardians should avoid doing is equipping the Scythe Relic. This armament is Solar and will cause players to fail the Season Challenge.

As mentioned above, any Kinetic weapon with Firefly or similar perks, such as Dragonfly and Timed Payload, can cause the challenge to be rendered incomplete. Because the challenge calls for exclusively Void, Kinetic, or Stasis weaponry, Guardians must be careful not to kill any enemy targets with explosive or Solar damage. During the mission objective, “Clear the Festering Scorn,” players will encounter several exploding barrels that can be detonated to clear out enemy mobs quickly. However, since this method counts as Solar kills, it is to shoot them only using one’s equipped armaments to do the job. Similarly, the strike and waves from the Scythe that appears near Zavala and Safiyah in the last room deals Solar damage, causing it to be a hindrance in completing the “Empty Grief” Seasonal Challenge in Destiny 2.
Nonetheless, once Destiny 2 fans successfully fulfill the Week 5 challenge, they will be rewarded with Challenger XP and Figments of Darkness. These figments are a resource required to upgrade the Crown of Sorrow in Season of the Haunted. As the crown is upgraded, players will gain access to a list of valuable rewards on a linear track. Therefore, being able to complete a challenge like the “Empty Grief” can help players progress towards the seasonal items they desire.
Destiny 2 is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PC.
