After probably a few too many years, Destiny 2 finally released a Thorn Catalyst. I’m sure we’re all aware of how broken the Thorn Exotic Hand Cannon is already. It really wrecks anything in its path. However, with a Catalyst that could potentially make the weapon even more powerful, you’d be wrong to think you don’t need it. Imagine just how impressive it would be in a Crucible match. Think of the pure chaos that would ensue. Still not convinced? With the Catalyst, the Thorn Hand Cannon could easily be one of the best Hand Cannons in the game for PvP.

The Thorn Catalyst is fairly straightforward to get, though the chances of it dropping is rare. Specifically: it’s a random drop from Ritual Activities. You could get it on your first strike, or you could get it after running 50 of them. You never really know when it will show up, but when it does, it’ll be sure to enhance your Crucible performance by quite a bit.

In order to receive the Thorn Catalyst as a drop from activities, you should participate in certain ones. Vanguard, Crucible, and Gambit are all options. Though, if you want it to drop a bit faster, you can turn to the higher-difficulty activities. You can’t go wrong there. Grandmaster Nightfalls and Comp Crucible matches couldn’t hurt, and you’ll get some other great gear in the process.

How Does the Thorn Catalyst Work

The Thorn Catalyst improves the already impressive Exotic Hand Cannon by a lot. The Catalyst alone is what will make the weapon easily compete with some of the best Hand Cannons in the game and give you the upper hand in any Crucible match.

The Thorn Catalyst will give the Hand Cannon an addition +20 Range, +10 Stability, and some awesome extra perks. After making final blows with Thorn, your Range, Handling, and Mobility will increase by a significant amount. This also occurs after absorbing a Remnant.

With this Catalyst, Thorn will be nearly unstoppable. If you’re someone who enjoys PvP game modes in Destiny 2, you might want to consider putting some time into finding the Catalyst. Otherwise, it might be you who’s out there getting wrecked in Crucible matches.

Jordan is an experienced fantasy writer who spends hours behind her laptop, and lost in the pages of a book. She strives to be a successful gaming blogger, and has no complaint about the hours of game time she used to increase her knowledge of all things “geek”. She primarily writes gaming articles and fantasy novels. Ark: Survival Evolved is a favorite, along with Diablo 3, Warframe and Minecraft lately, though you can’t forget the good old Magic the Gathering card game! Writing about games truly gives her joy as it gives her another perspective to look at games from, a reason to really look into the mechanics of the game.
